Exhibition Details
The Cincinnati Arts Association's Alice F. and Harris K. Weston Art Gallery in the Aronoff Center for the Arts debuts its 16th exhibition season with three new exhibitions linked by their investigations into abstraction: Limits and Boundaries: Sculpture by Jarrett Hawkins, Ascending Horizons: Paintings and Drawings by Cedric Michael Cox, and Binding Connections: Recent Drawings, Prints and Paintings by Roy Johnston.
Deconstructing and reinventing linear configurations, Cedric Michael Cox (Cincinnati, Ohio) uses elements of popular music and iconography culled from the urban environment in his abstract paintings and drawings. His work is a testimony to his experience living in the inner city with themes ranging from mythical literature to the relationships between body and music, and the urban cityscape. Ascending Horizons will feature a new series of paintings by Cox completed during the last year along with several works shown from private collections.
Cedric Michael Cox is a Cincinnati-based artist recognized for his energetic and inventive paintings and drawings. He received his bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1999 at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. While attending U.C., he was awarded a fellowship to study at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. After graduation, he participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions in the Cincinnati area. Simultaneously, Cox began developing themes for art exhibitions that promoted emerging artists. As assistant project manager for Hip-Notic Concepts, he helped develop unique events that showcased themed art exhibitions, popular art collections, films and music. Cox has also become involved in art educational projects at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Weston Art Gallery in the Aronoff Center for the Arts, the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, and the Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati.
