Apollon Musagete made its debut in 2010 at the Philharmonie in Berlin. In the same season, it was nominated as ECHO Rising Stars by both Vienna’s Konzerthaus and Musikverein, followed performances in Vienna and at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, and at the Philharmonie Cologne.The Quartet was named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2012.
The ensemble’s debut CD was released in 2010. Its recordings of works by LutosÅ‚awski, Penderecki and Górecki for Decca Classics appeared in 2012, of Russian compositions by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich in 2014, and of music by Beethoven and Weber in 2016.
Recent engagements have taken the quartet to Beijing, Shanghai, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, Berlin’s Konzerthaus and Philharmonie, the Louvre in Paris, Vienna’s Musikverein, London’s Wigmore Hall, and Washington’s Kennedy Center.
The quartet collaborates with renowned artist such as Martin Fröst, Gabriela Montero and Jörg Widmann. Beyond their regular concert activities, the quartet participated in the CD Night of Hunters by the American pop singer Tori Amos on Deutsche Grammophon, which won an ECHO Award in 2012. It was inspired by the musicians of the Alban Berg Quartet and takes its name from Stravinsky’s composition for the ballet of the same name (Leader of the Muses).
