Join acclaimed visual artist/poet Annie Ruth in an interactive performance of music, poetry, storytelling, and song. What’s the Word? Read! emphasizes the value of reading, literacy, and positive self-expression. Annie Ruth utilizes her visual art to help participants see beyond the surface of the lessons she imparts. Excellent program for Reach Out and Read Month or to compliment existing literacy or reading programs.

Recommended Ages: Grades PS-3
Maximum Audience: No limit
Length: 30 minutes
Cost: $400 first session/$200 each additional

Technical Needs

  • Artist Arrival: 20 minutes prior to presentation
  • Organization representative should meet the artist and show her to the presentation area.
  • The artist would like an organization representative to introduce her.
  • Audience participation: verbal feedback, questions & answers
  • There is a Question and Answer session following the presentation. It lasts approximately 5-10 minutes (included in running time).
  • Equipment needed by artist (for performances & large groups):
    • electrical outlet
    • microphone and stand
    • podium
  • Classroom or large gathering space is suitable for this presentation.
  • Please have drinking water available for the artist.
  • Please feel free to record and/or photograph the session. (If recorded, a complimentary copy must be sent to the company.)
