Standing before a 14-foot cover of the book Heroes of Ohio, author Rick Sowash introduces and briefly interviews, one by one, all the heroes he wrote about in the book, as impersonated by elementary students in costume and carrying props. They then take their place in a "living timeline" of Ohio heroes from Johnny Appleseed and Tecumseh through Toni Morrison and Neil Armstrong.

Recommended Ages: Grades K-6

Length:
  • 45 minutes (performance)
  • 40 minute (pre-show orientation session with the students/"heroes")

$500 first session/$300 each additional

Technical Needs

  • Artist Arrival: 1 hour and 15 minutes (which includes 40 minutes to work with student co-stars see Audience Participation below)
  • Organization representative should meet the artist and show him to the presentation area.
  • The artist would like assistance with unloading equipment.
  • Audience Participation: up to 28 students can participate in the presentation as an Ohio hero. The artist will need to work with the students for 40 minutes prior to the presentation.
  • There is an optional Question and Answer session following the presentation. It is not included in the run time.
  • Equipment needed by the artist: Electrical outlets, a hand-held microphone, and a CD player
  • Large gathering space is suitable for this presentation. Minimum amount of space needed for presentation: 50 feet
