BDAAC Newsletter - January 2010Spotlight on Members - Sunny Lu![]() Sunny Lu Name: SunnyFrom: ChinaFamily: Sunny is a single woman who lives with her parents. Sunny grew up in communist China. She didn't know there was a different world outside of the life she had in her community. Even though it was her country and her culture she didn't really know the history of her country. She learned more about both her country and culture while here in the United States. She took a course at UCLA to learn Chinese medicine, which helped her to reconnect with her culture and heritage. She personally feels that her values are the same common values that are shared by all human beings. These values are to have respect, courage, peace, and beauty, with all people. "This makes my work better and helps me to understand my patients. Each person's culture is unique but the values and humanity is common," she says. Job: As a child the "whys" of life were always in her mind which lead Sunny to her career in medicine. She has worked as a psychiatrist for adults, at University of Cincinnati, since 1997. She has lived in Cincinnati since 1985 and considers herself a native of Cincinnati. Her PhD is in Nuero Science. She works daily with medical students helping them with their clinicals. Sunny is very passionate about the arts. For her the arts are very important. The expression of all types of art she says, "Reflects our needs as human beings. We need beautiful things and this helps us to appreciate the differences in each culture. Also the music is what I really appreciate most. In China I appreciated the symphony. I took a symphony lecture class in China. Each art form helps us to be inspiring, hopeful, peaceful, and have good values. I support the performing arts. I love Shen Yun Performing Arts from New York. The customs and colors are so beauty. The concept is positive and inspiring for the audience. It gives great history and education value especially the music. I also enjoy classical music."
